About This Trip
CU Students, embark on an unforgettable backcountry mountain adventure, during your spring break! Learn the basics of backcountry travel in wintertime on snowshoes or backcountry ski gear. Enjoy cozy afternoons and evenings sitting by the fire, and incredible meals prepared by the Creatio guides. Hut trips offer something for everyone, come prepared to enjoy friendship and adventure!
The elevation at the trailhead is 9,657 feet. The Lost Wonder Hut is at 10,878 feet, so the total elevation gain is 1,221 feet over a distance of 3 miles. The trail continues beyond the hut another 3.2 miles to Chalk Creek pass, from which you can drop down to the ghost town of St. Elmo and beyond.

Abilities and Gear Requirements
PLEASE NOTE: No experience or special skills are necessary, but all participants must be in good hiking shape (ready to do very strenuous physical activity), and be able to hike/ski/snowshoe for at least 8 hours.
It is suggested that Participants have Intermediate/ Advanced Skiing or Snowboarding capabilities and familiarity with varying terrain.
All personal winter gear must be provided by participants. (Hats, gloves, jackets, boots, etc.) and is not included. Backpacking gear and sleeping Bag also required, not included.
Equipment Rental Information
Backcountry skis or snowboard rentals are NOT INCLUDED and all participants are expected to have their own set-up. Upon request, snowshoes can be provided free-of-charge by Creatio. Recommended location for backcountry gear rentals include Wilderness Exchange and Confluence Kayaks in Denver, and Crystal Ski Shop in Boulder, CO.
- Leave 9:00 A.M. Tuesday morning (3/24) from CU Boulder St. Thomas Aquinas Center (1520 Euclid Ave, Boulder, CO 80302)
- Ski/snowshoe to the hut during the day on Tuesday
- Dinner, games, and hang-out in the evenings
- Fun/Free Day on Wednesday & Thursday
- Ski/snowshoe out Friday morning back to the trailhead
- Return to Boulder by Friday evening
